This session explores the evolving, mutually beneficial relationship between data centers and electric utilities, highlighting how strategic collaboration can support grid modernization, community development, and technological innovation. Attendees will learn how data centers are partnering with utilities to enhance grid reliability through network upgrades, improve resiliency with distributed generation and microgrids, and accelerate the integration of carbon-free energy using tools such as grid-enhancing technologies and emerging resources like small modular reactors, geothermal, green hydrogen, and carbon capture. The discussion will also examine the positive economic and social impacts data centers bring to local communities, including high-skilled job creation, supply chain growth, increased tax revenues, and workforce education and training initiatives. Finally, the session will showcase how cloud-based technologies and advanced digitalization can transform utility operations, using real-world examples to demonstrate faster interconnection processes and more efficient power flow studies—delivering value to both utilities and the data center industry.
