The Wildfire Resilience Tech Stack: A Lifecycle Approach to Grid Risk Reduction
As wildfire threats grow in scale and frequency, utilities are building more integrated, forward-looking approaches to grid resilience. This session will explore how utilities can align technologies across the wildfire mitigation lifecycle—from planning and prevention to detection, response, and restoration—by leveraging coordinated partnerships and data-informed strategies. Drawing on real-world case studies and implementation experience, the presenters—BoxPower, Overstory, and Rhizome—will share how their respective technologies have supported utility partners in mitigating wildfire risk across multiple phases of the resilience cycle. This includes advanced vegetation risk modeling and prioritization, AI-driven vegetation management, and deployment of distributed microgrid infrastructure to reduce ignition risk and support continuity during PSPS and storm events.
This session offers a framework for understanding wildfire mitigation as a multi-phase lifecycle and highlights how specific technologies serve complement one another when applied to integrated planning or resilience programs. The session will share key takeaways from utility-led deployments, lessons learned in cross-functional technology partnerships, and considerations for building successful integration pathways between asset management, operations, and engineering teams. Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of how to evaluate and align wildfire mitigation technologies to their utility’s specific risk profile, and how to structure partnerships that balance innovation with operational feasibility. This presentation is intended to support collaborative learning among utilities navigating the evolving landscape of wildfire resilience.
