Hishman Othman

Dr. Hisham Othman is a distinguished power systems engineer and energy industry executive with a career spanning technology, renewable development, and management consulting at leading global organizations, including GE, ABB, SunEdison, and Quanta Technology. In his current role as Partner at Dash Power Partners, Dr. Othman leads the firm’s resource and grid planning practice, overseeing economic modeling and investment analysis. He serves a diverse client base that includes electric utilities, renewable energy and data center developers, ISOs/RTOs, and large technology companies navigating the evolving energy landscape.

Dr. Othman has led and contributed to landmark projects across five continents. His project experience includes the development and deployment of first-generation ISO/RTO market and operational systems in California and Ontario; a pioneering sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) mitigation controls scheme for thyristor-controlled series capacitors (TCSCs) deployed in Sweden and Brazil; a large-scale distributed smart solar system in New Jersey; and Storage-as-Transmission-Asset (SATA) projects in the United States (MISO), Colombia, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. This breadth of experience reflects deep expertise in grid dynamics, power electronics, and the intersection of transmission planning with emerging technologies.

A recognized innovator in energy planning software, Dr. Othman has been at the forefront of developing advanced analytical tools to address critical industry challenges. His collaborative work includes a probabilistic Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) software tool developed with Sandia National Laboratories, an IBR-Dominated Grid Reliability Analyzer created in partnership with PJM Interconnection, and an Energy Storage Planning Tool built jointly with National Grid. He is currently engaged in architecting the next generation of grid planning tools augmented by artificial intelligence, positioning Dash Power Partners at the leading edge of data-driven decision-making for the modern grid.

Dr. Othman earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his M.S. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He holds two U.S. patents and is the author of a book on energy storage applications in transmission and distribution grids — a widely referenced resource for professionals working at the intersection of grid infrastructure and emerging storage technologies.
