Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), which supplies electric power to an area of 900,000 people in Omaha, NE, has a vision of Power the Future 2050 where we strive to achieve perfect power by increasing resiliency and reliability, through using advanced technology that can monitor load usage and detect distributed energy resources.  To help achieve this goal, OPPD has embarked on an overhead and underground line sensor program to gain visibility on worst performing distribution circuits.  This visibility results in more effective and efficient decision-making from our Distribution Operations team when managing the system.  In addition to capacity monitoring and outage restoration, line sensors utilize predictive analytics to help prevent outages.

This presentation, led by Maurice Kimsey II of OPPD, will educate the audience on the goals, lessons learned, and current status of the deployment of overhead and underground line sensors and results to-date.  The session will also cover the overall technology solution, including predictive analytics, and how it can be easily integrated into ADMS as well as other distribution operation systems.
